Dominique Ukrainec.
Name Of Musical Theatre peice: Easy To Be Hard.
Name Of Musical: Hair.
Summary of plot:
Hair is based on two young guys in the Vietnam era with a sort of hippie culture. One of the guys is Claude Hooper Bukowski. He is an Oklahoman that was let off to see New Your before he started in the Army. Once he arrived in New York, he see's a group of hippies lead by one man, named George Berger. He sees them begging to form a trio of horseback riders. Later , after that, Claude catches a runaway horse that the hippies had rented and he uses it to show off his riding skills to one of the hippie strangers. After he returns the horse to them, they want to show him around the city, and he accepts.
The next morning, George finds a scrap of newspaper, that identifies a mysterious girl. The hippie group - concluding of Hud, Jeannie and Woof, crash a private party, where that same mysterious girl -Her name is Sheila Franklin- secretly enjoys the disaster in comparison to her uptight life. The group gets arrested and Claude -being the nice guy- uses his only money to pay the fine to have George released. Having done that, George needs to find the funds to have the rest of the group released.
George tries to get Sheila to use her fathers money to release the hippies, but she would not agree. So George returns to his parents house and is able to get his mother to give him enough money to have them let go. The next thing they do is go to Peace Rally in Central Park, where Jeannie Proposes that She and him get married so Claude does not have to go join the Army. He declined.
When Claudes trip to New York is over, Claude and the hippies have a fight over two things. One being a mean trick the hippies pulled on Sheila. They had taken her clothes while she was skinny-dipping, and leads to her complete embaressment as she has to hail a cab home, completely naked. The other being their philosophical differences over the war. In the end, Claude goes with his first plan and begins his basic training before joining the Army.
During his training, Claude writes to Sheila and she finds George and the rest of the group so share the letter with them. Geogre begins to form a plan to visit Claude in Nevada. Hud's fiances helps Sheila trick her brother, and take her familys car and head west to attempt to enter Claudes training camp to see him.
Georges makes another plan to have Sheila distract and Army Sergeant at a local bar. She is to seduce him, and take his uniform and car. Using both, George goes to the Army base and finds Claude. When Claude doesn't want to leave with the fear of being caught, Georgeo convinces him to atleast visit the rest of the group in the desert.
While Claude is away and visiting them, the rest of the base, on full alert, becomes active and immediatly ships everyone out to Vietnam. George unwilling to reveal that Claude is gone, boards the plane instead of Claude. George dies. The end part, is a view of George's headstone.
The Character that sings my song is: Sheila Franklin
His/ Her personality and role in the musical;
Sheila, I find is kind limited and unsure for alot. Not wanting her parents knowing she's tried of the borning, uptight life she lives. She doesn't it.
Sheila's role is basicly the girl that you know it gonna get with the main guy. She is the seductive tease, but is also reserved. Because I was inable to actually watch the musical and only read mulitple summarys, and bios, it's hard to fully understand who she is, other than someone who likes Claude, and is used as a decoy. All in all, she's obviously not the main character.
The events leading up to my solo:
Right before the end of Act 1, Shelia was giving George a yellow shirt, and he was goofing off and happened to tear it in half. During this song, she voices her distress, and how she thinks he cares more about the “Bleeding Crowd” than about her.
Sheila feelings during this song are just as was said. She's angry. She believes the man she cares about cares more about everyone else than her.
