First of all, let me say that I agree with all of these rules, within reason... but let's be mature about this...
In defense of the Admins: The issues over IPs and multiple accounts I will talk about first. Please do not argue out the rules with the site admins for any reason publicly (PM them or email, whichever they prefer.) They made that rule for a very important reason:
...until you create a very popular site yourself where a public game can be joined that has rules and afterward, you deal with nearly over 500 supposed players, 1/6th having the same IP address for whatever reasons... You really have no idea on how chaotic it really is to run a public web site / forum of this nature and how hard it is to quietly monitor the players and prevent anyone from "cheating the system."
I run a site myself, and I have worked for other web forum admins myself and was privy to a LOT of the problems that went on. I even helped solve some of the major problems (like a hacker from a college who was attacking a forum from college and doing extensive damage to the forum's web pages and the system itself. To handle this one, the Admins had me contact the college's authorities and, working with them and the times this trouble-maker had been online, the guy was caught and threatened with expulsion from the college if he didn't cease and desist. The problem was solved. He likely didn't know he could be tracked back to the exact computer he was typing from.)
Draconis, Thaz, and all the others... are doing the best they can do here. When you have this sort of pressure on top of you and, depending upon what kinds of days they had IRL, you have to regulate the game, the forum, the server, and all of the other issues that the players simply don't understand the workings behind... their responses may seem rude, crude, and otherwise, pointed, at the players. They simply cannot check on everything. They would like to, but that takes more time than they have. When they started this project, they probably thought it wouldn't have turned out to be so huge.
With any GOOD game, you have to have rules. And the only rule that it seems most of you are complaining about is the IP rule. I have used Simple Machines Forums myself, before. There is an IP Comparison feature within the Admin section that keeps track of your personal login IPs, if you're logging in from one computer or not. I cannot explain how this works exactly, but rest assured, it works.
In effect, I think what Draconis is meaning to say about logging in from your own computer is this:
"Everyone who joins DragonAdopters should only log in from their own home computers, if they have them, and are responsible, within reason, for all activity that occurs from their own home's computer. If you do not own your own computer (or have one without internet access), then the individual should NOT join DragonAdopters, even if they really want to."
Draconis' former responses that others said sounded rude or too strict... as I said before, until you've dealt with this sort of thing yourselves (which I personally have), then don't make too hasty of a judgment on their responses. As an Admin, they are doing the best they can do.
But they have to state a base set of rules or people will go overboard and yes... "cheat the system."
Additional suggestion for the Admins: Make it mandatory for all players to acknowledge that they have read the rules whenever the rules are updated or the system can auto-log them out of the game. I know there is a script / programming for this and if anyone can figure it out, it's Thaz.
